John M. Futch, Jr. was deeply committed to serving others and strengthening his community. His work spanned many roles, including service with the FBI, as a Metro D.C. Police Officer, an administrator at California State University, San Bernardino, an elected trustee for the San Bernardino Community College District, and President of the NAACP San Bernardino Branch.

His name in the community became synonymous with action, advancement, and assurance. John M. Futch, Jr. passed away in August 2019, leaving behind a lasting legacy of civic engagement, awareness, and advocacy.

 
 

ABOUT SCHOLARSHIP

The John M. Futch Jr. Scholarship Award provides a $2,500 scholarship to support and recognize a Pre-Service Trainee from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Training Academy who demonstrates excellence in performance, character, and commitment to service.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be enrolled in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Training Academy as a Pre-Service Trainee and must successfully complete and graduate from the Academy. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the SEBA Scholarship Committee based on a combination of class standing (as provided by Academy staff) and information submitted in the application, including the personal statement.

No more than one recipient will be selected from each graduating class. If no applicants meet the requirements, no award will be given. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Academy Graduation.
