PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

A law enforcement union must be committed to the needs of law enforcement officers. I have been your elected SEBA President since 2017 and served on the Executive Board since 2011. I am honored to be a part of a wonderful team, dedicated to focusing all our efforts on our members.

I grew up in the community of Rancho Cucamonga. I became a Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. I lateral transferred to San Bernardino County in 2004. I worked WVDC then patrolled the communities of Rancho Cucamonga and Yucaipa. I promoted to Detective in 2011 and was assigned to Cal-ID, Central Station and Specialized Investigations – Homicide Detail. I promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and was assigned to Central Detention Center until elected President of SEBA.

Since first elected to the SEBA Executive Board, I have always held steadfast to our mission statement. I am dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of our members.

AREAS OF FOCUS:

Collective Bargaining:
As President of the Association, I am honored to sit at the negotiations table and represent the interests of all five of SEBA’s bargaining groups.

Protection of Member Rights:
As President, our Board of Directors reexamined SEBA’s Legal Defense structure. We developed a strategy to provide better legal services to the members while providing direct oversight and involvement by SEBA’s labor staff. The strategy resulted in the implementation of the SEBA Legal Fund in 2019.

Political Action to Promote the Goals of the Association:
As President, our SEBA team is now directly involved in the California legislative process. We travel to Sacramento regularly and ensure our members priorities are heard in the state capital. We have open communication with our County Board of Supervisors and clearly voice what is important to our membership. We work closely with other law enforcement unions and are active within PORAC, CCLEA, SCALE and Protect California.

Services of Benefit to the Member:
As President, SEBA has sponsored numerous family events for our members. Our Peace Officers Relief Fund (PORF), has assisted dozens of our members through financial hardships and family tragedies. Our team is always looking for additional benefits to offer our members.

Community Involvement:
I am humbled and honored to attend numerous charity events throughout our County and State. Since becoming the President of SEBA, our Board of Directors has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars that directly impact the communities we serve. Our SEBA members are THE BEST!

I am proud to be a Deputy Sheriff and a voice for the front lines. I became a Police officer to help people; I became a union Executive to help police officers. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity.
— Sgt. Grant Ward, SEBA President
